Millie Manders and the Shutup - Wake Up, Shut Up, Work

This powerful second album from Millie Manders and the Shutup actually made me feel very nostalgic, as the band’s sound is reminiscent of the 2000s punk that personally had me in a chokehold in my formative years. It’s all thundering guitar riffs and driving drum beats, with Millie Manders’ incredibly strong vocals a highlight. What keeps this band fresh, though, is the eloquent way in which they engage with the world around them through their lyrics, with the band being very vocal on a number of social and political issues. Come for the punk bangers, stay for the emotive storytelling. LT
