Local Scene: Jam Tub

It takes a certain amount of chutzpah to wear a headband for a publicity shot, but this Durham trio have got chutzpah in spades. Absolutely buckets of it.

If you’re on the look out for a great new indie hope – an indie hope that is fired by big melodies and with no little punky attitude – then Jam Tub have all the good stuff you need. The trio formed last year (say: “Hi, how’s it hanging?” to Michael Stott, Fergus Hamill and Freddie Dobby) and they hit the ground running with their debut single ‘Riverside’, a full-bodied release full of monster riffs that exude a real sense of cutting-loose. Follow-up ‘Daisy Chain’ throttled things back a bit, but it demonstrated that the band can pen a memorable melody. I bigged-up their ‘No Scrap Value’ EP in the last issue, and it’s a release that adds another three tracks to their oeuvre including the fabulous ‘ABIOTIC’, which is as thrilling a slice of driving indie-rock you’ll hear all year and should appeal to fans of everyone from Sam Fender to Fontaines DC. I’m currently hunting around for a rosette labelled ‘Real Deal’ so I can pin it to Jam Tub. DP
