Ewe light up my life

Artist Deepa Mann-Kler’s now famous ‘Illuminated Sheep’ will be on Tyneside this October at three different venues including the iconic Newcastle Cathedral.

I’ve seen these ‘Illuminated Sheep’ before and let me tell you, I haven’t witnessed anything else like them. They have the ability to utterly transform any space they’re in, but I doubt they’ve ever worked their strange powers anywhere as grandiose as Newcastle Cathedral. They’re set to be in situ in the historic nave of one of Tyneside’s most famous buildings for three days only, and I can’t wait to reacquaint myself with them once again. The 30 sheep were created by Deepa Mann-Kler and were originally inspired by the Lindisfarne Gospels’ themes of light and pilgrimage. The event will operate on a timed slot basis, with booking available from 6.30pm to 7.45pm and you are welcome to stay however long you wish (closes 8.30pm). And the cost? Well, it’s pay as ewe feel, isn’t it… Note: You can also see the sheep at Toffee Factory (3 & 4 October) and Segedunum Roman Fort & Museum (11 & 12 October). DP
