Reinterpreting the world

‘Towards New Worlds’ sees fifteen artists exploring their experiences of seeing, hearing, feeling and sensing the contemporary world. You can see it at MIMA in Middlesbrough.

Each of the artists involved in this show is disabled, D/deaf and/or neurodivergent; and the exhibition explores a rich variety of human perceptions and sensory experiences through their works of art – each piece making a connection between the artists’ internal worlds and their external environments. The artworks – which include Aaron McPeake’s ‘Iceland Landscape’ (2011 – pictured) – consider issues in the contemporary world, including justice, ecological consciousness, connectivity and care. Among the other artists showing stuff are Leah Clements, Joanne Coates, Carrie Ravenscroft, Colin Hambrook, Seo Hye Lee, Molly Martin and Louise McLachlan.
