UNIT 8 are a fabulous band from Alnwick/Cullercoats who have a very easy on the ear classic rock sound that is given extra oomph by some excellent progressive stylings. This – their second album – has all the melodic nous of Michael Head’s outfits (including Shack and Michael Head & the Red Elastic Band), which they marry to a Steely Dan-like sense of wonder and adventure. Add in some folky elements (the wonderful ‘Movement’) and you’ve got every quality box ticked. Timeless songwriting never goes out of fashion. GM
