C’est CHIC
Forget Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Sex Pistols and Queen. There’s a case to be made for CHIC as being the pinnacle of 1970s bands. They were the prime movers and groovers on the disco scene and responsible for banger after absolute banger including ‘Le Freak’, ‘I Want Your Love’ and ‘Everybody Dance’. But their influence spread far beyond disco. Indeed, the deathless bassline that forms the bedrock of their classic hit ‘Good Times’ helped usher in hip-hop. Head honcho Nile Rodgers would also go on to work with a slew of other artists including David Bowie (‘Let’s Dance’), Madonna (‘Like A Virgin’) and Duran Duran (‘The Reflex’). More recently Rodgers has unearthed more gold while collaborating with the likes of Daft Punk (‘Get Lucky) and Beyoncé (‘Cuff It’). This latest tour sees Rodgers and CHIC dipping into that back catalogue, a catalogue that also includes work with Sister Sledge (‘We Are Family’) and Diana Ross (‘I’m Coming Out’). In short: expect a glittering show that starts in fifth gear and pretty much stays there. RM
