Wherefore art thou…
Is ‘Romeo and Juliet’ Shakespeare’s most famous work? Most popular? Probably – it’s certainly been successfully reinterpreted in various incarnations over the years. But it’s little wonder that it’s so loved as it’s a tale that’s got the lot, from those star-crossed lovers, to those age-old feuds, to those fights, to that dramatic ending. But there are not many takes on the story that have been praised as highly as Ballet Cymru’s. Their extraordinary version benefits from being performed to Prokefiev’s famously dramatic score, and it features choreography from company directors Darius James and Amy Doughty and costumes by Georg Meyer-Wiel, who has created costumes for some of the world’s leading companies such as Rambert Dance Company. They also make dramatic use of video projections to create a world of danger and excitement, a world you can fully immerse yourself in when this production visits the region in the run-up to Christmas.
