Local scene: Polyfillas
I love the fact that, according to Polyfillas’ press release, their driving force is “centred around the songwriting partnership of Ava and Jamie Dangerous”. Dangerous! I’m all over that! And I also love the fact that the pair originally started out as a folk rock duo, because these days this fledgling bunch are anything but. Ava and Jamie have since expanded to what looks like a four-piece (their pics are my clue), and their sound is now full on punk, certainly judging by their very feisty, and very excellent, ‘Our Youth Movement’ single. It’s a glorious pell-mell assault, the twin girl/boy vocals working fantastically well over driving rhythms and the kind of raucous melody that would light the blue touchpaper of any mosh-pit you’d care to name. The band have new stuff in the pipeline – that will incorporate funk, reggae and dance rock – but in the meantime they’re playing The Bunker in Sunderland on 22 November. Expect fireworks. DP
