Local scene: Twayn
These north-east lasses (twins, don’t you know) deal in the catchiest of pop songs that are underpinned by super sharp lyrics. Love – the finding of love and the falling out of love, and the toxic relationships and all of the rest of it – can be exhausting. Ditto friendships. Luckily Hannah and Grace – aka Twayn – are here to make sense of it all. The pair started recording their own stuff during the pandemic with Hannah concentrating on the sonics and Grace on lyrics and lead vocals. This led on to their debut single ‘Sweet 16’ (a gorgeous, piano-led ballad) which was released just last year. Since then the pair have banged out a clutch of corking singles and EPs including the recent ‘MESS EP’, which really showcased their way with a sumptuous hook. They haven’t been shy in the hitting the stage either playing a whole bunch of gigs in the last year or so including wowing all and sundry on the BBC Introducing Stage at Stockton Calling. They’ve also played the iconic Exit/In venue in Nashville. If pop’s your bag then Twayn are a Hermes. DP
