It’s made of what now?

Where other people see junk Elvis & Kresse see treasure. Any idea what this bag is made of…

I bet the last time you saw a fire engine hose you didn’t think “that would make a great handbag” did you? Well, apparently Elvis & Kresse did, because back in 2005 they decided to take the decommissioned hoses from London’s Fire Brigade and turn them into bags. And since then they’ve been on a mission to make sure as few materials as possible go to landfill, turning other people’s cast-offs into something both useful and beautiful. They’ve saved over 300 tonnes of material from London’s Fire Brigade hoses, and, since 2017, they’ve also teamed up with the Burberry Foundation to stop the fashion house’s leather off-cuts from going to waste. The partnership has stopped at least 120 tonnes of these off-cuts from ending up in rubbish heaps around the world, instead turning them into luxury items that are sold directly through Elvis & Kresse. That means you’ll be getting items made from the exact same material as Burberry’s high-end handbags, just without the designer mark up. Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, they even donate 50% of profits back to charity. Doing good while making us look good? We’ll take that. FR
