Festive funnies at Stand

The laughs are going to be rolling in big style all throughout December at The Stand comedy club in Newcastle.

In many ways, December is the most stressful month of the year, but an antidote to all that tension is on hand at The Stand Comedy Club. They have a plethora of one-off shows lined-up this month (check their listings for details) but they also have plenty of specials too not least from local comedy collective Your Aunt Fanny (pictured) who are presenting three showings of ‘You’re Not Me Ma’ (14, 15 and 19 December). A Christmas soap opera special it features betrayal, affairs, exes, grudges, road traffic accidents, sexually transmitted infections, and everything else that makes this time of the year so special. This is exactly the kind of festive Fanny you need in your life right now. As you’ve probably guessed ‘You’re Not Me Ma’ is strictly adults only but Stand do have treats lined up for kids too in the shape of The Big Family Christmas Show (14, 15, 21 & 28 December). Featuring the fastest and stupidest hour of alternative family comedy you’ll ever see, it stars Hannah Walker and Lee Kyle along with Elaine Robertson and Kelly Rickard. Expect daft songs, silly sketches and bonkers stand-up. The Christmas at the Stand specials are always great value and this year they’ve got a particularly stellar line-up (12, 13 & 14 December). Host Lee Kyle will be joined by the brilliant Mike Milligan (one of the region’s most consummate comics), up and coming local sensation Lauren Pattison (“You. Are. So. Funny” – Katherine Ryan), Connor Read (Felt Nowt New Act of the Year 2022) and headliner Micky Bartlett (one of the fastest rising stars around). After Christmas Day, The New Year Specials once again kick into gear (27, 28, 29, 30 & 31 December). Host is Matt Read and the line-up for this one consists of Lauren Stone, Si Beckworth and the wonderful headliner, Northern Ireland’s Martin Mor.
