The all-singing, all-dancing ‘Crazy For You’ – with music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin – is hot-footing it into Durham’s Gala Theatre this January.

When it first launched in the early 1990s ‘Crazy for You’ was billed as “The NEW Gershwin musical comedy”, which was kind of playing a bit fast and loose with the facts. It was based on George and Ira Gershwin’s 1930 musical ‘Girl Crazy’, but it also incorporated songs from several other productions. The amalgamation, however, was a roaring success and went on to pocket the 1992 Tony Award (Broadway), the 1993 Olivier Award (London) and the 1994 Dora Award (Toronto) for Best Musical. The tale follows Bobby, a Wall Street banker with his sights set on Broadway stardom, as he embarks on a whirlwind adventure to win the girl of his dreams and save a small town theatre. This production by DULOG Musical Theatre – Durham University oldest theatre company – sees them celebrating their 75th year and features hit songs such as ‘I Got Rhythm’, ‘Embraceable You’ and ‘Someone To Watch Over Me.’ GM
