This? It’s only Gosforth’s newest creative space
Housed within the former Ladies Bowling Club Pavilion in Gosforth Central Park – and surrounded by as much nature as your soul can handle – the Hut on the Green is a fabulous new centre of cultural value and artistic exchange. From visual arts to applied crafts, their programmes cater to people of all skill levels and interests. Art programmes take in regular classes in life drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, print-making, woodwork, sewing, basket weaving and sign writing, while there will also be a full horticulture/gardening and ecology programme. They also run a children’s woodwork club on Saturdays – called ‘Woodpeckers’ – which aims to teach 9-14 year olds how to swing an axe and sharpen a knife in order to, say, carve a spoon or sculpt a fox. They’ve got lots planned for 2025 with a plethora of classes and workshops in the pipeline (including plans for a kids arts and craft club). Why not kick that gym membership you’re hardly ever going to use into touch, and join up with something you’re actually going to enjoy?
