In case you’re not clued up on mythology, Aquilo is the Roman equivalent for Boreas, the Greek god of north wind. This fifth album from the Lancashire-based duo of the same name feels much like the north wind - it’s light and airy yet powerful; it carries a haunting chill of melancholy yet is somewhat comforting. The gentleness and vulnerability of Tom Higham’s vocals pairs wonderfully with their poetic lyrics, and it’s refreshing to see how well they understand when a track’s impact can be heightened by a little more production, and when a piano melody with some light strings can do all the talking. It feels like the soundtrack to a beautiful romance film. LT
