Kendrick Lamar - GNX

Seven albums in, Kendrick Lamar still isn’t taking his foot off the gas. Though less rich in narrative than previous releases, Lamar’s wordplay in GNX is razor-sharp, enhanced by his chameleon-like ability to adapt his vocals and add a variety of emotional colour to each track. Taking on Jack Antonoff as producer - not a name you’d associate with hip hop  - was a risky move, but it pays off beautifully. The eclectic sounds that accompany Lamar elevate this album to another level - there’s everything from mariachi, to jazz, to 80s-style Latin, to R&B. Keeping things this exciting after a career spanning almost two decades is no mean feat. LT
