Father John Misty is a favourite artist of mine, yet I was underwhelmed on my first listen of ‘Mahashmashana’. Two of the singles released  - ‘I Guess Time Makes Fools of Us All’ and ‘Screamland’ - are total knockouts that stand on each end of his musical spectrum, the former being a groovy jeer at humanity and the latter being a sincere, euphoric soundscape. The rest of album just didn’t punch me in the gut the same way. However, the more I immersed myself in the lush production and genius writing, the more I came to appreciate it. There are just too many musical corners to explore here for a single listen. LT
