Last year, National Stottie Cake Week – which is the brainchild of Big River Bakery – caught the attention of the national press with even Time Out singing its praises, including the event in their ‘Best New Things To Do’ list. Big River Bakery, of course, is a real jewel in the north-east’s foodie crown. A superb community initiative, they provide bread free of charge to people in need. They also offer free baking sessions and have won the backing of Hairy Biker Si King who declared the Big River stotties as the best stotties of all time. Last year’s National Stottie Cake Week saw all manner of activities including a Golden Stottie Raffle, a Stottie Cake Trail and the life-sized ‘Scotty the Stottie’ popping up in all manner of places around Newcastle. This year’s event is taking place during half-term week so there will be a load of free stuff for kids to do in and around Newcastle. There will also be a live stream Stottie Bake and much more besides. Grab the full programme from 1 February from the website, below. GM
