Take a Bow(es)

The wonderful Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle is celebrating the 200th anniversary and artistic vision of museum co-founder Joséphine Bowes with a fantastic new exhibition entitled ‘From Joséphine Bowes Trendsetters and Trailblazers’.

Joséphine Bowes was a remarkable woman. An accomplished artist, she was also a collector and in 1862 she decided to sell her husband John’s wedding gift to her (a house in France) and open a museum in the north-east of England. This visually stunning exhibition includes a curated selection of works from The Bowes Museum’s collection, which will be shown alongside major loans from the UK and beyond. Expect to see work from Picasso and Grayson Perry alongside rising contemporaries such as Joy Labinjo and Lucy Waters.

From Joséphine Bowes Trendsetters and Trailblazers, until 29 June, The Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle, thebowesmuseum.org.uk
