Moonchild Sanelly popped up all over the festival circuit last year, so I had a feeling she had something exciting on the way - she did not disappoint. ‘Full Moon’ is as bold as the chunky blue braids that have become an iconic staple of Sanelly’s image; with lyrics in both Xhosa and English, South African genres such as kwaito, amapiano and gqom are woven into an incredibly polished electro-pop package. While dominated by witty lyrics celebrating Sanelly’s sexuality and the flashy lifestyle she’s worked hard to earn, moments of vulnerability shine through that add some real dimension to the album. Moonchild Sanelly is setting the bar high for 2025’s music. LT
