The Weeknd - Hurry Up Tomorrow

The Weeknd is no stranger to musical experimentation, and this is perhaps his most sprawling release yet - spanning across genres such as Brazilian funk, synth-pop, soul and electro. It has the recipe of a great The Weeknd album including an impressive roster of collaborators, polished production and lyrics exploring fame’s dark underbelly. But at 84 minutes long, it lacks sharpness and I struggle to pick out any standout tracks. Some of the self indulgence of the songs - such as multiple references to when he lost his voice during an LA show - made me wince. It showcases a versatile artist, but I missed the cohesive concepts present in his earlier albums. LT
