Newcastle’s Jack Blenkinsopp has stuck gold with his latest album, which piles on the invention. From the incantatory title track, which features the kind of folk-goth that thrums with wyrd vibes (“Something in the background is naming me…”); to the blissy motorik drive of ‘Detour’; to the pastoral stoner rock of ‘Fata Morgana’; to the static-inflected ‘Local Void’ (which should be sound-tracking a BFI documentary about an abandoned but haunted nuclear bunker), this is stirring stuff.
