Growing up, I had Gaga’s early albums constantly on rotation in my mam’s car - maybe it’s the nostalgia, but I still believe they’re some of the best pop records ever made. So I was delighted when I listened to MAYHEM, which feels like a return to form that’s freshened up for a new era of little monsters, strengthened by the maturity she has gained as an artist over the years. Gaga staples such as quirky floorfillers, gothic imagery and soaring vocals all feature, yet none of the songs are merely rehashed versions of her old material. It’s a masterclass in knowing what you do best without letting it limit you. LT
