Bria Salmena first gained recognition when she fronted up the Canadian post-punk outfit FRIGS – and as a vocalist in Orville Peck’s live band – but her debut solo album really sees her cutting loose, bending a whole bunch of genres, including starry shoegaze, theatrical and grandiose goth, krautrock at its most hypnotic, and sundry shades of darkwave, into a supremely satisfying whole. It’s an album that feels big and expressive in the manner of someone like Hurray for the Riff Raff, and I’m absolutely here for it. DP
