Yes we Can(tina)!
The Jumpin’ Hot Country Cantina is at the very top of any “Must Attend Festivals” lists, particularly among those of us who love country roots, acoustic blues, rockabilly, authentic rock ‘n’ roll, reggae, and more. Taking place in Easington Colliery, the line-up this year is all kinds of sizzling and headed by the brilliant House of the Black Gardenia (pictured), a nine-piece that knock out viper jazz, dirty classic blues and hot vintage swing. Also on the bill are Wayward Jane (modern, transatlantic interpretations of American folk and Old Time traditions, blending roots music with fresh arrangements), The Niche Family (folk country roots singers), John Miller (a rare solo appearance from one of the UK’s leading purveyors of real authentic traditional country music), Annie Dresser & Friends (the New York born indie-folk artist), Most Ugly Child (country music that wears its battered heart on its sleeve), Errant Moose (bluegrass with skill, humour and beautiful harmonies), Michael Littlefield/Scott Taylor (authentic blues with a harp/acoustic guitar line-up), Mr Saturday Night (London four-piece playing classy and new bluegrass) and lots more. Situated on the edge of the beautiful and wild Hawthorn Dean on the Co. Durham coast, this festival has the kind of vibes others can only dream about. DP
