When I say “Gimp” you say “Fist”
I remember first catching Gimp Fist – ooh, maybe over a decade ago – at a punk festival. They weren’t among the headliners – think that year it was The Damned – but out of all the support acts they were the real stand-outs. Their abrasive Oi! sound was uncomplicated, as this type of stuff should be, but it buzzed along on a real wave of fiery riffs and working class righteous anger. The Bishop Auckland trio are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year and, pleased to report, they haven’t become jaded over those years. Their songs are full of both heart and passion as they deal with the struggles and triumphs of life in the north. And, needless to say, their pell-mell assault is an absolute thrill to behold live. For this special anniversary show they will play an extended set featuring songs spanning their back catalogue including stuff they haven’t played live in over a decade. GM
