Japanese Breakfast - For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women)
Even if you aren’t a melancholy brunette or sad woman, Japanese Breakfast’s fourth album is a lush yet bittersweet soundscape of romance and heartache. Plucked acoustic guitars, cinematic strings and longing Americana melodies accompany Michelle Zauner’s gentle vocals as she weaves Greek metholody into lyrics of love and loss. It’s a more expansive sound for the band - due in part to the fact that this is the first album they’ve recorded in a studio, opting for more DIY spaces in the past. Despite this, the sense of intimacy they create so well in their music is protected. It’s a beautiful listen. LT
