Julie Doiron - I Thought of You
The first solo album from Julie Doiron since 2012 couldn’t be more welcome. Doiron’s voice is as beautiful as ever, it’s chameleon-like nature able to convey the power of the rocky, upbeat tracks as well as the gentle vulnerability of the more stripped back and emotional songs. Her lyrics are simplistic, yet the nuance in Doiron’s vocals make them poetry. The guitar playing in this record is also a genre-bending treat: bluesy strumming, thundering rock and roll, heartfelt acoustic and even some folky plucking, it has it all. ‘How Can We?’,‘Cancel the Party’ and ‘Ran’ stole the show for me.
