Metronomy’s song ‘Salted Caramel Ice Cream’ is one of my favourites of all time, so I was excited to hear their new album. Despite being no strangers to an evolving sound (there’s a notable shift between each of their albums) I was surprised to discover such a chilled out sound from the band, as well as such contemplative lyrics. Moodier territories are reached through piano ballad ‘Life and Death’ and melancholy closer ‘I Have Scene Enough’, but an abundance of synth and jangly guitars keep things fun. Sunny track ‘It’s good to be back’ is my personal highlight, but this more shadowy phase of Metronomy is quite refreshing. LT
