Labyrinthine Oceans - Visions From Below
Sunderland’s Labyrinthine Oceans will not be bound by genre (or lyrical concerns – their new album references everything from Nintendo soundtracks to classic court dances…). It all kicks off with ‘Below’, a gorgeously ethereal track that weaves magical patterns up in the clouds, before they shift gears with ‘Sinking Sands’ – a riff-heavy blast of rock (vocalist Julia O’Neill handles both styles with aplomb). Elsewhere they tackle Radiohead-like art-rock; spectral instrumentals; and melodic noodling with much success. Absolutely super. JL
