Lindsay Clark’s unique blend of traditional and modern folk shines in ‘Carpe Noctem’. It sounds like a sunny day; warm, mellow and relaxed. The focus is very much on Clark’s vocals, which effortlessly create a sense of intimacy as she eloquently expresses emotion through poetic lyrics. Acoustic guitar, piano or strings are often her only accompaniment, giving the record an ethereal lightness. Admittedly, the songs do tend to blend into one and it’s difficult to pick out any individuals as memorable. However, the gentle atmosphere created by the album as a whole warrants a listen if you’re looking for something chilled out. LT
