Album of the Month: The Unthanks - Sorrows Away
I always find it heartening that The Unthanks have risen to such
national prominence, despite the fact they sing about starving bairns
who live in coal sheds and can only find warmth by wrapping
themselves in the shredded rags they steal from corpses hanging from
gibbets. Their new album, however, sees them letting some light in.
It’s a truly glorious and rousing listen, positively upbeat in
places, and while they’re unlikely to be collaborating with Tiesto
any time soon, this release, which is beautifully arranged, should
see The Unthanks winning an even bigger following. RM
