Since they released 2018’s ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino’, Arctic Monkeys’ new sound has been divisive to say the least. Though, like many, I’m admittedly much more a fan of their older albums, there were a handful of songs from the 2018 release I really enjoyed. ‘The Car’ is pretty much more of same kind of thing; niche, experimental and some rather wacky lyrics, but with a more elegant, lounge bar feel. However, the only song that really sticks in my mind is opening track ‘There’d Better Be A Mirrorball’, which, to be fair, I loved. The rest blends into the sound of a band that has matured and evolved, but seems to have forgotten the roots that made them so popular. LT
