This third album from New Orleans’ Dawn Riding - the musical alias of Sarah Rose Janko - is a beautiful, emotive take on country music. “I love music that talks to you and keeps you company”, she shared, and this is definitely something that ‘You’re Still Here’ does. Gentle, melancholic opener ‘9 Lives’ makes you stop and listen to its story of heartbreak, its lyrics having a traditional, narrative feel to them reminiscent of Townes Van Zandt. ‘The Difference’ is, in contrast, charged with anger as it addresses the role of white people in the BLM movement. Janko has mastered the art of musical storytelling, her vocals and instrumentation adding light and shade to each line. LT
