Murray A. Lightburn - Once Upon A Time in Montreal
Well. This is special. Murray A. Lightburn is the frontman with The Dears, but he likes to dabble in the solo side of things too. This – his third release – is full of gentle arrangements that draw deep from a late 1960s/early 1970s well (think: Al Green, Dionne Warwick etc). The songs are lightly jazzy, and touch on pop and folk, and were inspired by the death of his father who was a jazz musician from Belize who moved to Montreal via New York to reconnect with his teenage sweetheart. Gorgeous. GM
