Louise Burns first rose to prominence when she signed to Madonna’s Maverick label when she was only 15 (as part of girl band Lillix). She’s since carved out an excellent solo career and this, her fifth album, is a modern pop gem. She mentions Depeche Mode and Kate Bush as touchstones, but these warm and melodic electro-groovers are more likely to get fans of Madonna herself hot under the collar. And her vocal isn’t a million miles away from the Queen of Pop’s, either – a good thing. JL
