La Faute (aka Peggy Messing) is from Toronto and her debut album is a real treasure trove of dark delights. It falls somewhere between ethereal alt-folk and hold-me-close dream-pop, and it’s shot through with a Lana Del Rey amount of drama and a theatricality that calls to mind Weyes Blood. Messing also cites the likes of Mitski and Massive Attack as musical influences and she’s certainly imbued this release with the kind of depth those artists always manage to find. A major new talent arrives. RM
