Steve Jinski was born in Liverpool but has made his home in the north-east since his late teens, and he’s become a popular fixture on the circuit by dint of his powerful songwriting abilities. He’s on stellar form on his latest album, which manages to hit a sweet spot somewhere between folk-rock and indie-pop. He also manages to inject bags of soul into his songs and here they positively thrum with inventive melodies, from the rhythmic ‘The Kicking Horse’ to the sky-scraping strum of ‘The Art of Conversation’. Disc 2 of the album features a revisited and remastered edition of his debut release ‘Eventually’, which is also fabulous. GM
