Doja Cat - Scarlet

I’m a big fan of Doja Cat, so when she announced she was switching up her sound - even going as far as saying that her past albums were “cash grabs” - I was a little worried. However, I now actually see her point. Scarlet moves away from the palatable pop sound of her previous releases, focussing on her prowess as a rapper and integrating more hip-hop elements than ever before. The lyrics are for the most part razor sharp, but there are some refreshing moments of softness, such as the gratitude of ‘Love Life’ and the romance of ‘Agora Hills’. Scarlet has perhaps even allowed me to appreciate Doja as an artist more than previously, so I stand corrected. LT
