Tom Odell - Black Friday
Tom Odell’s lyrical talents are far from obscure at this point in his career, yet on his sixth album the artist takes the candid and confessional nature of his writing to another level. Raw and sombre, Black Friday is undoubtedly brimming with emotion, perhaps even to the point of overkill. At times it feels that it is all shade with no light, and though Odell has never exactly been famed for writing happy songs, I’ve always found his work at its strongest when there is nuance, and room for light to shine through the cracks. Black Friday feels, indeed, very dark, but it is beautiful nonetheless. LT
