Ariana Grande - eternal sunshine
Ariana Grande is no stranger to a heartbreak anthem, but ‘eternal sunshine’ offers a deeper contemplation on the subject that adds a new tangibility to her music. Grande has had quite the rap from the press recently, but by approaching the subject of her very public break-up through such a spectrum of emotions rather than the one-note, relationship-trashing path that pop music can often follow, she has indirectly exposed the injustice of how the media reduces flawed human beings to villains. Accompanying this is a measured yet experimental feel to the music, with a variety of genres peeking through - from disco to R&B - without forgoing consistency. My favourite release from Ariana since 2018’s Sweetener. LT
