Birdie got together in the 90s and they included Debsey Wykes (Dolly Mixture) and Paul Kelly (East Village) among their ranks, the pair bonding over a love for sunshine pop and 60s/70s soft rock. ‘Some Dusty’ – which is getting a vinyl 25th anniversary release – features the band hitting pop perfection with Wykes’ sweet vocals sitting atop some beautiful arrangements featuring gentle wah wah guitar, trumpet, keyboards, breezy chimes and more. Stick in some string arrangements from The High Llamas’ Sean O’Hagan and you’ve got something approaching perfection. GM
