Alan Chapell – or, hey, Chapell – was something of a musical prodigy when he first bubbled to the fore in Connecticut where he worked with producer Jimmy Lenner when he was aged just 15. Chapell is older now, with a few albums under his belt, and his latest sees him ploughing a pop/rock Americana furrow. He knows how to pen a decent tune, but all of the edges have been planed away leaving this a tad over-earnest for my liking. GM
