This Middlesbrough outfit make, primarily, instrumental stuff, and the first album of this double set sees them exploring the life of 19th century clairvoyant Helene Smith. If your “TOO NICHE!” alarm is flashing like billy-oh then fear not, because this release thrums with beautifully lyrical post-rock that is replete with swoony otherworldly melodies that I instantly fell for. The second album is also worthy of your time and pulls off the rare trick of being both ambient and country. In short: astonishing. DP
