Seahurst by S. A. Harris

Seahurst, the place her father died, the house next to the ruins on the edge of a collapsing cliff was once Evie's sanctuary. As she escapes her abusive partner with her son, she hopes it will be again. But Seahurst has secrets waiting to be uncovered. S. A. Harris conjures up an excellent atmosphere with her latest novel, her writing a superbly chilling example of modern gothic. Somehow the ancient ruins aren’t as scary as the huge, open windows, with emptiness behind them. With nuanced discussion of climate change, domestic violence and infertility woven through the novel, Evie is living with horrors in her reality, only to be faced with horrors that can’t be explained. This novel is a real page-turner as you need to know what will happen and what has happened to Evie’s brother and father. But – wary readers be warned – it might be one to read with the lights on!
