Moor’s the merrier

The best in folk and roots music is celebrated at the brilliant Beyond the Moor festival, which will be setting up shop once again at the Gosforth Civic Theatre this October.

Beyond the Moor is always a grand day out for live music lovers and this year’s event looks particular enticing as among the headliners are the brilliant O’Hooley & Tidow (pictured). Many came to this duo through the fab BBC1 drama ‘Gentleman Jack’ (they provided the memorable theme), but there’s a whole lot more to them as evinced by a thrilling back catalogue of albums that showcase their folk music that is in turn warm, tender, political and poetical. Elsewhere on the bill look out for Leveret (featuring three of England’s finest folk musicians: Andy Cutting, Sam Sweeney and Rob Harbron), Cri du Canard (French folk trio), Me Lost Me (aka Newcastle-based Jayne Dent who fuses folk, art pop, noise, ambient and improvised music) and Jez Lowe (stalwart of the scene). Two stages will be in use – the main stage and the intimate studio space – and food and drink will be available throughout the day. Full line-up from the website, below. JL
